UEBT is invited to share its experiences on how standards support access and benefit sharing (ABS) at an international expert meeting. The expert meeting on the Nagoya Protocol on ABS is organised by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies, in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, and it will bring together government experts and stakeholders from around the world.

UEBT Senior Adviser Maria Julia Oliva will provide examples of how the Ethical BioTrade Standard and other UEBT tools are supporting improved practices on ABS. The Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity, Braulio Ferreira de Souza Dias, has highlighted that guidelines, model clauses and standards are “key tools for engaging stakeholders and the private sector in the implementation of the [Nagoya] Protocol.”
